金太郎の怪力で鯉の尻尾が伸びる

怪力で知られる伝説の怪童金太郎は、自らの身長よりも大きな鯉を手掴みで捕えたとの伝説がある。鯉は、5月に日本中で子どもたちの健やかな成長を祈って揚げられるのぼりと親しまれている。この画では金太郎はその恐るべき握力を示し、それが外力となって細胞の収斂伸長（動物の発生過程で、細胞が相互に挿入することで組織がある向きの軸に沿って伸長する過程）を引き起こし、尾が伸びている。収斂伸長の様子は色分けされた鱗のパターンで見て取れる。
