ファージは分子生物学の興隆に大きく寄与し、そして現在でも研究者にとって有用なツールであり続けている。このイラストでは、江戸の火消しを演じる歌舞伎役者が持つ「まとい」をファージに見立てており、後方の火消しが持つ提灯を細菌のようなデザインにしている。
