東北地方へのオーガナイズされた物資輸送の重要性を訴える画。石畳で表現されている「街道」は微小管に似せてデザインしている。牛と飛脚はモータータンパク質を表現している。ミトコンドリアと栄養源であるコメを積む大八車は左方向へ、細胞内小胞を表す飛脚は右方向へ、という具合に、積荷の種類によって方向が決まっている点もポイント。
