大脳皮質さながらに材木を積む職人芸

２人の職人が材木を層状に積み上げている。材木が見事に６層に積み上がっていくさまは、まるで形成中の大脳皮質のようだ。下方の男性（その背中には『幹』の字が見える）は神経幹細胞（放射状グリア細胞）の役をしていると考えられ、新しい材木（新しい神経細胞）の供給源であるとともに、上の方向にひも（放射状グリア繊維）を伸ばして、材木が正しく最上層へ運ばれるよう助ける役割も担っている。そして上方の男性は、ちょうどリーリン産生細胞と同じような役割をしていると考えられる。リーリンは、神経細胞が正しい位置に移動し位置するよう制御する役割を担っているタンパク質である。
