宵の川祭にクラスリン被覆小胞の飾りが映える

愛知県津島市では毎年夏に、500年の伝統を誇る津島天王祭（つしまてんのうまつり）が行われる。クライマックスの一つの宵祭（よいまつり）では多数の提灯を配した半球状の装飾で飾った5艘の船が川を渡る。この半球状の装飾は、まるで形成途中のクラスリン被覆小胞を思わせる特徴的な形状である。そこで今年は思い切って、完成した球状のクラスリン被覆小胞そっくりの装飾を船に乗せてみた。手前の岸にはクラスリン被覆小胞にLDL (low-density lipoproteins)を取り込ませる働きをするLDL受容体を模したY字型の構造物を置いた。夏の夜の川面を、クラスリン被覆小胞を模した提灯飾りが彩り、いかにも幻想的である。
