ヒストンの笹にエピジェネティックな飾り付け

7月の日本の見どころは七夕（星祭り）である。七夕は、古代中国が起源の、夏の天の川の星々に祈りを捧げる祭りである。日本では江戸時代から、人々は七夕に、笹の枝に願いを書いた短冊（紙の小片）を飾り、願いが叶うことを祈るようになった。この画の笹の枝はヒストンテール（左から順にH2A, H2B, H4, H3）を模している。短冊はヒストンテールのアミノ酸残基へのエピジェネティックな修飾（アセチル化、メチル化、リン酸化）を表している。もしこのヒストンの笹を使うなら、願い事の内容は、飾り（すなわち修飾）の種類と位置、および修飾の組み合わせで表現せねばならないので注意が必要だ。正しく修飾をするには、教本が欠かせない。
