変異座位が判明した金魚たち

大きな金魚鉢の中を、染色体を従えて悠然と泳ぐ、出目・背びれなし・長い尾ひれの表現型のキンギョ（Carassius auratus）。キンギョは800～1400万年前に全ゲノム重複を起こしており、ゲノムの解析が困難であったが、ついにさまざまな品種のゲノム配列が解読され、これらの形質の原因遺伝子（候補）が見つかった。この中で、長い尾ひれの原因遺伝子（候補）kcnk5bSは、鉢の側面に描かれているようなK⁺チャネルをコードしている。この研究は脊椎動物の形態形成やヒトの疾患の研究へ応用できると期待される。詳しくはChen et al.
