分裂酵母国際会議 in 広島

宮島（広島県）の厳島神社の鳥居を背景に満月が昇り、波間にその姿が無数に反射している。よく見ると、波間に見える月の姿の正体は分裂酵母Schizosaccharomyces pombeの細胞だった。栄養増殖中の細胞に加え、手前側には有性生殖過程（接合、第一・第二減数分裂）にある細胞と、胞子を含んだ胞子嚢も見える。本誌今月号に、広島で開催された第11回国際分裂酵母会議（POMBE2023 Hiroshima）のミーティングレポートが掲載されている（Toda et al., Genes Cells 28: 642-645, DOI: 10.1111/gtc.13055）。
