What's MBSJ?

The Molecular Biology Society of Japan was established as an academic society where researchers aiming to elucidate life phenomena at the molecular level gather from diverse fields to engage in borderless discussions using the common language of molecular biology. It values an interdisciplinary, free, and open atmosphere.

In addition to hosting annual meetings (scientific conferences), publishing the journal Genes to Cells, and engaging in next-generation education through outreach lectures at high schools and student presentation sessions at annual meetings, the Society also actively communicates information via social media. Furthermore, it continues to address challenges related to improving members' research environments and advancing internationalization.

Lecturer introduction to high School

We are trying to introduce MBSJ members to highschool students so that they have opportunity to experience for latest biology.

MBSJ regular members, most of them are ‘professional› scientists with ph.D or MD, who belong to lab in universities, research organizations, or companies. They visit high school for free and give lectures. They enthusiastically tell highschool students how it is interesting of the world of biological science.

Presentation by High School Student in MBSJ Annual Meeting

Through presenting research findings obtained from daily experiments, we hold an annual research presentation session for high school students at our annual meeting to help them discover their own potential.

The MBSJ Career Development Committee

Although “molecular biology” is a relatively new field in the life science domain, its development has been remarkable and has contributed enormously to society. On the other hand, it is a well-known fact that the situation of young researchers belonging to the Molecular Biology Society is still not satisfactory, regardless of gender.

The MBSJ Career Development Committee, newly started in the 18th term (2013), aims to raise, analyze, reduce, and eliminate the numerous problems surrounding young researchers.

The MBSJ Research Ethics Committee

The Society deeply aware of the occurrence and impact of serious breaches of research ethics, such as data fabrication and accounting fraud. To address these issues at the organizational level, the establishment of the MBSJ Research Ethics Committee was approved at the Council meeting on December 5, 2006.

The Committee’s primary purpose is to promote education and awareness in line with the Molecular Biology Society of Japan Code of Ethics. To this end, it carries out the following activities. In individual cases of misconduct, working groups composed of both member and non-member experts are convened to investigate and report on the matter.

Activities

(1) Promote awareness of the Code of Ethics and conduct ongoing reviews.
(2) Promote ethics education in the life sciences and disseminate information to society.
(3) Responsible for matters concerning ethical issues related to life sciences.
