Kyushu University is seeking an experienced individual with expertise in teaching and research for appointment as a tenured Associate Professor in the Laboratory of Biochemistry, Division of Molecular Biosciences, Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture. The Laboratory of Biochemistry deals with education and research on proteins related to the maintenance and transmission of genetic information, and analyzes the structure and functions of these proteins. Research on the molecular recognition mechanism of proteins connects to creating industrially useful proteins. The laboratory is currently focusing on DNA- and RNA-related enzymes, which are useful for development of novel technology for genetic engineering. The candidate should have the excellent research achievements in this field and also have the ability to promote vigorous research dissemination and show international research activities. It is desirable for this position to have experiences and achievements in functional analysis of nucleic acid-related enzymes.

2. Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree.

3. Date of Appointment: The successful candidate will take up the post as soon as possible after the endorsement of the appointment at the professor meeting of the Faculty of Agriculture.

4) Reprints of the most important publication (Maximum five papers may be submitted.)

5) Summary of the applicant’s research activities and future research plan (Write in about 1,000 words)

6) Summary of the applicant's educational experiences and aspiration for education in the future (Write in about 1,000 words). Summary of the aspiration for education in the future if the applicant doesn’t have the educational experiences.

Waseda Institute for Advanced Study (WIAS) was established in September 2006 to enable promising and talented researchers to focus on their research activities under fixed-term contracts in a rich research environment. Around 40 researchers have been working on advanced research in a wide range of themes and with no limitation as to field of study. The Institute is currently recruiting researchers for AY2019 as detailed below.

a. Persons with a doctorate. It is desirable for the doctorate to have been obtained within 10 years of April 1, 2019.

c.Persons with scholarly attainment equivalent to persons who have obtained a doctorate (persons who have completed the full term of a doctoral course etc.) as of April 1, 2019, and who have research experience at a research institution.

* Applicants are expected to be enthusiastic about conducting their research, which will contribute to facilitating research at Waseda University, as well as to establishing and strengthening collaborative network between the researchers of outside/overseas research institutions and universities and those of Waseda University.

The Institute seeks to recruit researchers who will undertake highly creative research projects that have the potential to identify issues for the future, and carve out new fields of study in the areas of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences.

7. Period of Employment: In principle, the employment start date is April 1, 2019.
For researchers in a field of Humanities and Social Sciences, the employment period will be Three years from the start date of employment and not to be reappointed. Reappointment is allowed every year (up to a maximum of two years) only for researchers in the field of Natural Science, in cases where the research activities and achievements up till the third year have been highly appraised and considered to be adequate. The total period of employment at the Waseda Institute for Advanced Study, including the period of reappointment, is capped at five years.

RIKEN invites applications for an indefinite-term Technical Scientist to work at Laboratory for Mucosal Immunity, RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences.

Laboratory to be assigned

Outline of research
The laboratory is dedicated decoding the complex interplay between immune system, microbiota and other major physiological systems of the body.

Research topics to be assigned
The successful candidate will develop new approaches for understanding the immune-bacteria communication and microbial regulation in the gut. Experiments will involve the use of unique models of immune-deficient mice, germ-free and gnotobiotic (bacteria-defined) mice, in combination with histological studies, bacterial cell sorting and transplantation strategies, bacteriologic, metagenomic and transcriptomic approaches to study the basic principles of immune-bacteria interactions.

Conditions

Type of employment
The post is an indefinite-term employment position, subject to RIKEN's mandatory retirement age of 60. There is a re-employment program to hire individuals as fixed-term employees from age 60 to age 65. This position does NOT offer a retirement allowance.
As an exception, depending on screening results, the successful candidate may be initially employed on a fixed-term employment contract up to a maximum of 5 years with the possibility of being promoted to indefinite-term employment after a separate review process that will take place, as a general rule at the end of the first 3 years of employment. Remuneration and work conditions for fixed-term employment are based on the same conditions as those for indefinite-term employment.

The salary system is annual and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will apply. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai) is required.
Days off include public holidays, New year's holidays (Dec. 29 - Jan. 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.
These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
