Event summary:

- Principles of gene regulation in non-disease cases and dysregulation in diseases at individual locus level as well as on genome-wide level.

- Principles of sequencing based genomics technologies and corresponding bioinformatics data analysis.

- Concrete bioinformatics data analysis by the students of selected published projects.

After the completed course, the participants will be able to understand the principles and perform basic bioinformatics analysis of genomics sequencing data. The participants will be able to plan experimental designs and to critically evaluate the appropriateness of the different sequencing based omics methods and technologies for genome-wide gene regulation studies.
Students from Japanese universities can apply for participation now.

The 2019 International Conference on Biotechnology and Bioengineering (9th ICBB) will be held in Poznan, Poland during September 25-28, 2019. For more information, please visit https://www.icbb.ibch.poznan.pl/

ICBB2019 is co-organized by Asia-Pacific Association of Science, Engineering and Technology, Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, and Chinese Journal of Biologicals, in collaboration with multiple academic affiliations.

It has been designed to provide an innovative and comprehensive overview of biotechnology and bioengineering. A focus will be given to major research advances including: 1. Microbiology, virology, cytology and immunology; 2. Biological macromolecules, proteins and nucleic acids; 3. Biomaterials, biopolymers and bioenergy; 4. Biomedicine, biopharmaceuticals, pharmacology and toxicology; 5. Agricultural & food science and industrial biotechnology; 6. Applications in bioengineering, biomedical engineering & technology and other related fields.

The conference will last for two days from September. 26 to 27. Abstract Submission deadline will be on July. 31, 2019.

Biosystems are dynamic networks organized by interactions between various components of molecules, cells, tissues, organs and organisms. Given the progress in our understanding of the spatiotemporal regulation and organization of biosystems, scientists are now exploring approaches to control and design biosystems at multiple biological scales. Recent advances in such approaches include artificial cell synthesis, generation of embryoids/organoids, reconstitution and manipulation of life events such as aging and reproduction, and interdisciplinary approaches using theoretical and engineering technologies. These control-and-design methodologies are expected to contribute significantly to understanding what life is as well as to paving the way to a new field in medical sciences.

The first RIKEN BDR symposium targets a wide range of relevant topics, including (i) making artificial embryos and organs, (ii) engineering approaches toward making artificial cells, (iii) artificial control of the life cycle, (iv) theoretical analysis for identifying/controlling biosystems, and (v) cutting-edge technology for artificial control of biosystems. We hope that this symposium will be a great opportunity for all participants to stimulate cross-disciplinary interactions and discussions that open new avenues of life science studies.

We encourage the submission of abstracts for the poster session from many scientists to increase opportunities for lively and informative exchange of views. A small number of poster abstracts will be selected for oral presentations. A limited number of travel fellowships for graduate students and post-docs traveling to Japan will also be available.

We look forward to seeing you in Kobe, Japan in March 2019.
